Mount Kazbek also is known as Mkinvartsveri is located on the border between Russia and Georgia. With its height of 5054m, it belongs to Georgia's 10 highest mountains. Mt. Kazbek is situated in the East of the main Caucasus range. It is the dormant volcano, the last explosion occurred in 650 B.C.

There are two routes leading to the summit of Kazbek: from the Russian and from the Georgian side. We organize climbing expeditions from the Georgian side since this route is easier to access and gives a chance to climb even for the novices without previous mountaineering experience.  The only requirement for the participants is to be in good shape. Your guide will teach you how to use an ice-ax, crampons, and rope.
The first ascent of Kazbek was committed in the 19 century - in 1868 by D. Freshfield.
There is a beautiful view from the summit of Kazbek - panorama of Central and Eastern Caucasus. In the west, in clear weather, you can see another volcano, a giant of the Caucasus - Elbrus (564m).

DIFFICULTY
The normal route from Georgia is not very demanding technically - comparable to average fourthousanders in f.e. Swiss Alps.  What can make the climb really strenuous is the weather, which changes here very fast and a lot of people fail to summit the mountain because of that. An overall grade of the normal route is PD (sometimes also graded PD+).
